Bourjade aspired to be a priest and missionary and was being educated in this line before the war. When the war broke out he was called up and joined the artillery. After the Battle of the Marne he was promoted to Marechal des Logis, and in 1915 he was promoted to Sous Lieutenant. After two more years he requested a transfer to aviation service, and after training, he was assigned to Escadrille N152 where he finished the war. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur on 5 June 1918, and he was also awarded the Croix de Guerre with 17 Palmes and one etoile de vermeil. Jean Bourjade died 22 October 1924, on Yui Island in British New Guinea, having followed his calling to be a missionary.

Born 25 July 1892 in Morocco, he entered military service in October 1913. In August 1916, he transferred as a student pilot and was assigned to Escadrille N15 on 25 April 1917. By the time he had scored his 4th victory he was a sergeant, and on 27 August he received the Medaille Militaire. In December he was promoted to Sous Lieutenant. On 27 February 1918, he was made a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur. On 11 May, after his 22nd victory he was wounded in action and spent the next few weeks in hospital. On 7 July, he took command of Escadrille SPA88, and was promoted to Lieutenant on the 13th. Guerin was killed in a flying accident on 1 August when his SPAD VII spun into the ground shortly after take off.
